One arrested, one injured in Cotati intersection crash

A suspected drunken driver in a pickup truck collided with a motorcyclist in a Cotati intersection, seriously injuring the rider, Cotati police said Wednesday.

The motorcyclist, Steven Vanleuven of Rohnert Park, was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was in fair condition Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Derek Corkill, 51, of Sebastopol was at fault as he turned his pickup into the motorcycle's path, according to Officer Brian Deaton's investigation.

The two vehicles collided at about 5:10 p.m. Tuesday in the intersection of East Cotati Avenue and Lancaster Drive.

Officers found Corkill had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of 0.16, twice the legal limit. They arrested him on suspicion of felony drunken driving causing injuries.

Corkill was booked into the Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $30,000. He was released early Wednesday after posting bail.

Officers asked witnesses to contact Deaton at (707) 792-4611.
