A Santa Rosa pickup driver veered into an oncoming lane on Highway 12 early Tuesday, crashing head-on into a SUV, the CHP said.

Both drivers were injured in the 5 a.m. collision just east of Hoff Road in Kenwood. The crash created a traffic jam on the heavily used two-lane, east-county highway, but the vehicles and debris were cleared by about 7 a.m.

CHP said officers are investigating what caused Jose Antonio Farias Moreno, 28, to cross the double-yellow lines. His Chevrolet Silverado collided with a westbound Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Scott Eddinger, 57, of Sonoma, CHP Officer David deRutte said.

The men were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. An initial CHP crash report indicated they suffered moderate injuries.

Two ambulances responded to the crash, along with Kenwood, Sonoma Valley and Santa Rosa firefighters.
