A pedestrian who was struck by a car on Petaluma Hill Road at the south edge of Santa Rosa late Sunday night was seriously hurt but was expected to survive, the CHP said Monday.

The man has been identified as Shane Harris, 41, CHP Officer Dave deRutte said. He was being treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

DeRutte said Harris was wearing dark clothes and pushing a shopping cart near Wheeler Zamaroni landscape supply when a northbound driver, Chanh Samphan, 54, of Santa Rosa, struck him.

Samphan did not see him in time to stop the Toyota Rav 4 she was driving, authorities said.

DeRutte said there are no indications that speeding, drugs or alcohol played a role. Samphan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, he said.
