A new documentary by a local filmmaker about the devastating wildfires that roared through parts of Sonoma County and surrounding areas in October will have its world premiere on July 19 in Santa Rosa.

In "Urban Inferno: The Night Santa Rosa Burned," Santa Rosa native Dr. Stephen Seager documents the events of the firestorm that chased the doctor and his neighbors from their homes in the early hours of of Oct. 9.

In the locally made and produced documentary, Santa Rosa residents recount their escapes from the deadly flames.

It was a project that must be made by "someone who lived it," Seager told KSRO in an interview.

KSRO News Director Pat Kerrigan and Seager's wife, Mette, a Kaiser physician, are executive producers of the film, which has been entered into 30 film festivals worldwide.

Proceeds from the premiere at Santa Rosa's Roxy Stadium 14 will be donated to local fire-related charities. The film will then be shown at Third Street Cinemas in Santa Rosa, with a portion of the proceeds going to fire-related charities.
