Roseland Prep portfolios

EDITOR: On Tuesday, Roseland University Prep held its annual Portfolio Presentation Day, hosting more than 60 community members for the event. As a guest and portfolio reader/interviewer, I was amazed by not only the importance of this event but also the professionalism exhibited by the students and faculty. As I exited my car I was greeted by at least two students who were impeccably dressed, reached out their hands in greeting and escorted me to my appropriate location. After introductions by Superintendent Gail Ahlas, we proceeded to listen and interview, first the freshman, then after an hour, the sophomores and, finally, on to the seniors.

As an educator with 45 years experience, I was impressed. It is rewarding to see an activity such as this being presented by our youth, especially candidates who need all the support one can imagine. It was a wonderful event. All high schools should require this for an end-of-year culmination for their students. It has a direct impact upon the attitude and educational direction for these young people.

Hats off to the Roseland School District for this day.
