Fort Bragg man struck by vehicle while walking on Highway 1

The man was airlifted to a Santa Rosa hospital after the early Sunday incident.|

A Fort Bragg man suffered major injuries after he was struck by a vehicle early Sunday while walking on Highway 1 south of the coastal community.

Peter M. Howe, 59, was taken to Mendocino Coast District Hospital and later airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, according to a CHP collision report.

A hospital spokesperson said Sunday evening Howe is in critical condition.

The crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the highway near Ocean Drive about a mile south of the Noyo River bridge. The driver of the vehicle, a 2006 Ford, was Tricia H. Godwin, 51, of Fort Bragg.

The crash remains under investigation. “Alcohol or drugs is not considered to be a factor in this collision,” the report stated.
