SAN JOSE - Northern California authorities say a commuter train struck and killed a jogger who was wearing earbuds during rush hour.

The San Jose Fire Department said the jogger appeared to have been hit as he attempted to cross the tracks in front of the train around 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Capt. Keith Woeste said the man appeared to be about 30.

The Altamont Corridor Express system said the jogger was trespassing and the collision closed a busy train corridor for at least two hours. About 400 passengers were taken by busses to their final destination.

ACE shuttles passengers over California's Altamont Pass to and from the Central Valley and Silicon Valley. Amtrak and other passenger trains also use the track near the Great America amusement park.
