Irving fire in Marin County grows to 115 acres, evacuation orders lifted

Evacuation orders for a 115-acre wildfire in Marin County were lifted on Tuesday, though an estimated 54 homes could remain without power until midday Wednesday.

The Irving fire burned through parts of Samuel P. Taylor State Park, north of Lagunitas, Cal Fire said. It was 45 percent contained by Tuesday evening.

The blaze started about 7 p.m. Monday near the Mount Barnabe fire lookout. By Tuesday morning, it threatened 150 homes in the steep West Marin hills. Residents in some 30 homes on three roads bordering the east side of the park - Mountain King, Portola Avenue and Alamo Way - were ordered to evacuate, said Laine Hendricks, a Marin County spokeswoman.

Those roads were reopened by 5 p.m. Tuesday. The homes without power included areas along the 200 and 300 block of Arroyo Road and the 100 block of Portola Avenue.

There were 150 firefighters on the blaze, including Sonoma and Santa Rosa firefighters. Marin County Fire Department officials anticipate crews will work the fire through at least Thursday. The cause remained under investigation, Hendricks said.

Meanwhile in Napa County, the Snell fire remained at 2,490 acres on Tuesday. Crews increased containment to the Lake Berryessa-area blaze to 60 percent.
