Rohnert Park man suspected of driving under influence of drugs
A Rohnert Park man fell asleep behind the wheel of his running car at two places on a road near a local middle school Wednesday morning, police said.
The man, identified as Ritesh Prasad, 39, was arrested and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He was released by Thursday morning on $10,000 bail.
Staff members at Lawrence Jones Middle School in Rohnert Park noticed a man sleeping at the wheel of his car stopped in the middle of the road near the school. They notified police at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, then officers received a second call soon after reporting the man’s car had moved and was again stopped in the middle of Snyder Lane near Rohnert Park Expressway with the driver asleep at the wheel. The intersection is less than a half mile from the school.
Prasad was asleep and his car was still running on Snyder Lane when a Rohnert Park police officer found him there with a line of cars stopped behind him, according to a Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety press release. The officer parked his patrol car in front of Prasad’s vehicle to stop it from entering the intersection.
The officer, a drug recognition expert, approached Prasad and determined he was impaired and driving while under the influence of drugs.
