A few young people in San Jose will have the chance of a lifetime on Friday afternoon.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama will participate in a youth leadership workshop at Seven Trees Library and Community Center before heading to the SAP Center to discuss her memoir Becoming.

The workshop will be hosted by Public Allies, a nonprofit focused on providing a diverse array of young people across the country with leadership skills, according to a statement released by the organization.

Obama has a long history with the organization. She served as head of the Chicago chapter in the 1990s and has remained a supporter since then, inviting current participants and alumni to meet her during stops along her book tour.

In her book, Obama writes of her time with Public Allies, “For the first time in my life, really, I felt I was doing something immediately meaningful, directly impacting the lives of others while also staying connected to both my city and my culture.”
