A Windsor man was in jail Monday, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and attempting to elude deputies during a short pursuit Sunday night.

A caller alerted authorities about 6:20 p.m. Sunday of a possible drunken driver on Highway 101 in Windsor, where deputies spotted the suspect’s black pickup in northbound lanes, said Misti Harris, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. They tried to stop him near Arata Lane, but the driver, later identified as Brandon Lowrie, 23, left the highway and headed back toward town, Harris said.

Leading deputies on a slow-speed pursuit, he turned into a dead end street off Starr Road, stopped and ran from his truck, Harris said.

Additional law enforcement officials and a police dog were brought in to search for the suspect, who was found 20 minutes later hiding in the bushes, she said.

Lowrie was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless evading, misdemeanor DUI and other misdemeanor charges. He also was on felony probation for an assault with a deadly weapon case and misdemeanor probation for a prior DUI and was being held without bail for violating his probation, according to records.
