Firefighters on Saturday were battling a 25-acre wildfire near Timber Cove on the Sonoma Coast, fire officials said.

A caller reported the blaze just before 7:15 p.m., telling dispatchers up to 2 acres were on fire in the area of Fort Ross Road and Highway 1, according to Redwood Empire Dispatch Communications Authority.

Cal Fire Capt. Tiffany Mercado said the fire was burning in brush and moving into timber. As of 9:30 p.m., Mercado said crews were making good progress, and the fire’s progress had slowed.

Highway 1 was closed near Fort Ross Road to allow for emergency responders to move freely in the firefight.
