After touring the Glass House in Timber Cove, I wanted to check out more oceanfront properties in Sonoma County, but I was afraid all I’d find was a list of homes over a million dollars.

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of houses along the coast in Sonoma County, and many of them are much less than a million. While not every home is right on the beach, these 9 houses do all offer a view of the Pacific ocean, as well as a chance to greet every morning with the fresh sea air.

As they say, it’s all about location, location, location. If you’re in the market for a house with an ocean view (without the titanic price tag) here’s what’s on the list:

4800 Coastal Ave, Bodega Bay – $640,000
2 beds, 1 bath, 725 square feet. Year built:1963

This little 1960’s bungalow looks like every surfer’s dream. Sure, the Pacific Ocean isn’t all that warm – but that’s what wetsuits are for…

If you are a surfer, hopefully you don’t use a longboard if you choose this house. While you have an ocean view, that board will get awfully heavy after 2 or 3 blocks…

Another 1960’s home, this one looks washed out from the salt air. However, with three bedrooms, there’s plenty of space to invite friends over to spend a (chilly) day at the beach.

The view is unobstructed, but far enough back from the beach that the homeowner won’t have to worry about high tide. Fog, however, will be unavoidable.
3100 Muniz Ranch Rd, Jenner – $889,000
2 beds, 2 baths, 1,570 square feet. Year built: 1996

I would have wagered that this home was far larger than the two bedrooms it is, but it is three story with 1,570 square feet of interior space. Scrolling through the listing, it’s a spacious open floor plan AND it has a great view of the ocean.

Really, you’re not directly on the water, but you’d be close enough to walk. Though perched high on the hillside, it’s a good blend of both ocean and forest.

Sometimes, ocean homes are used as vacation or summer properties, but this 1986 house has an attached two-car garage and plenty of room for a single family.

It’s not a beach front property, but it’s close enough that a homeowner would be abe to hear the waves (and seagulls).

This house is one of those unexpected pieces of history that I always run into in Sonoma County. Designed by William Turnbull Jr. and built by Matt Sylvia, what I at first thought was a shack in the woods is actually a really well-designed property on the inside, with hiking and beach all around.

The beach isn’t so close that you’d be able to run over to it, but with a name like Wind Song Lane, I imagine you’d be able to hear it.

5330 El Camino Bella, Bodega Bay -$690,000
2 beds, 2 baths, 1,302 square feet. Year built: 1979

I didn’t know what to make of this house at first it looks like a modular home that’s been situated in the middle of its own sand dune. However, the price is right and the neighbors are well spaced out, so I had to take a closer look.

The proximity to the ocean does not disappoint. This reminds me of yet another beach bum getaway.

All told, this Bodega Bay house has 7 rooms; this includes a guest suite. Built in 1991, it has a more modern look and feel – with a price tag just shy of a million. I have to relegate this one to my  “maybe I’ll win the lottery one day and buy a summer house,” but it is nice to dream.

It’s far enough away from the ocean that you wouldn’t be bothered by tourists, but close enough to take a brisk walk to the beach.

Another newer beach home designed by a local architect, Steve Brodie. There’s something to be said about ‘buying local.’

While there are plenty of images throughout the listing that focus on how beautiful the view of the sea is, I wanted to juxtapose the ocean and interior together. It’s all well and good to have an outside view you enjoy, but the interior should be no less relaxing.

I’m not entirely convinced with the 1970’s architecture, but it is close to the beach and in the small Sea Ranch community. It is highly custom, and it’s not until you get inside that you see how much sense it makes.

Because this side view is in the sunlight, it doesn’t look as secluded as the introductory image makes it seem. The ocean is clearly visible, and while it may not be clear from here, there is an attached two car garage.
